"She should be leading": Chris Packham criticizes Taylor Swift's handling of the Jack Sweeney situation

In an interview with The Mirror published on Friday, Chris Packham expressed his disappointment with pop star Taylor Swift's "absurd" private jet usage. The campaigner was especially disgruntled by how the singer handled the situation with social media user Jack Sweeney

21-year-old Sweeney allegedly tracked and reported the miles traveled by Taylor Swift via her private jets on social media and claimed that she traveled 178,000 miles via her two private jets last year, according to the Independent.

As per the publication, in response to Sweeney's tracking, Taylor Swift sent the social media user a cease and desist letter through her Venable Law firm attorney, Katie Wright Morrone. She reportedly warned that she would have to take legal action if Sweeney did not end what was described in the letter as "stalking and harassing behaviour."

This did not sit well with Chris Packham, who told The Mirror that private jets were the "single greatest contributor" when it came to jet aviation fuel and believed that the singer "missed the trick" with how she responded to Sweeney.

"What you (Taylor Swift) should have said is, 'You're right, times have moved on. I've got to change my practice. I'm going to sell my private jets'. And that would have been such a powerful thing for her to say to an audience," he said.

He elaborated:

"And I mean, her audience is primarily a young audience, isn't it? I mean, you can't say she's responsible for climate breakdown. But she's an icon. And as a consequence of that, she should be leading."

On June 22, when Taylor Swift will be performing in Wembly, Chris Packham will be at Central London leading a Walk for Nature rally. Packham told the publication that it would make his weekend if Taylor Swift showed up at the end of the rally and announced that she was giving up flying on private jets.
