It was nothing short of domination from start to finish for the New York Rangers on Tuesday against their Original Six rival Montreal Canadiens at Bell Centre thanks to an offensive explosion.

Two goals from Filip Chytil along with three points from Kaapo Kakko powered the Rangers to a 7-2 rout of the Habs, while Will Cuylle and Braden Schneider each registered two points of their own. Only six Rangers players finished the night without registering a point.

The Rangers scored early and often, with Mika Zibanejad tallying just 54 seconds into the contest on New York's first shot on goal. That was followed by goals from Jonny Brodzinski, Reilly Smith and Chytil's first of the night.

Habs goaltender Sam Montembeault was replaced by Cayden Primeau after allowing four goals on 10 shots, but the onslaught continued. While two goals from captain Nick Suzuki got the Canadiens back into the game, the Rangers wrestled control right back thanks to goals from Schneider and Chytil.

Kakko scored late in the third period for New York, increasing their lead to 7-2. Meanwhile, goaltender Igor Shesterkin finished with 21 saves on the 23 shots he faced to earn his fourth victory.

Here's a closer look at three major takeaways from New York's blowout win over Montreal.

3 major takeaways from New York Rangers' 7-2 win over Montreal Canadiens

#1. The Rangers set a franchise record with the win

Thanks to their blowout victory, the Rangers set a new franchise record of having picked up points in each of their first six games of the season. If that weren't enough, they also set a new franchise record for longest road winning streak to begin a new season.

Considering New York's status as a historic Original Six team, that's an impressive feat.

#2. New York's depth came through

Despite having scored seven goals, New York's top players like Chris Kreider, Vincent Trocheck and Alexis Lafreniere were held pointless. Additionally, Artemi Panarin and Adam Fox registered only one point each.

It's a valuable asset to have solid depth, and the Rangers benefitted by having the scoresheet filled mostly thanks to their complimentary players.

#1. Captain Jacob Trouba once again doled out a thunderous hit

Known throughout his career as the "Trouba Train" thanks to his affinity for bone-crunching hits, the Rangers captain once again lived up to the reputation by trucking Justin Barron:

The Rangers return home to face the defending Stanley Cup champions Florida Panthers on Thursday at Madison Square Garden, the team that bested them in the Eastern Conference Finals last season.
