The Detroit Red Wings will open training camp this week. Their rookie showcase has ended and several prospects played well and should get an invite to training camp.
Ahead of the training camp opening, here are three Red Wings prospects who should get a training camp invite.
3 top Red Wings prospects who may get training camp
#1. Michael Brandsegg-Nygard
Michael Brandsegg-Nygard was selected 15th overall in the 2024 NHL draft and the 18-year-old should have a chance to compete at training camp.
“One thing I’d like to see him do is get open, try to get some more opportunities to shoot the puck,” Grand Rapids Griffins coach Dan Watson said after a rookie showcase game, via The Hockey News. “He has an absolute bomb, and we have to do a better job of trying to find him some more opportunities to shoot that puck.”
Brandsegg-Nygard has been playing in Europe, so it will be a good test for the prospect to see how he stacks up in North America and against adults.
Detroit's roster is not set, so Brandsegg-Nygard has a chance to win a roster spot.
#2. Shai Buium
Shai Buium signed his pro contract after his college career at the University of Denver.
Buium played in one AHL game and should get an invite to training camp to compete for a roster spot. The Red Wings did add Erik Gustafsson in free agency, so there isn't a clear opening for Buium.
But, an invite to training camp would help Buium's development.
#3. Nate Danielson
Nate Danielson was selected ninth overall in the 2023 NHL draft and he should be invited to training camp as he has a legit chance of cracking the roster.
Danielson can be a solid third-line centerman for Detroit as he can add some scoring and be a shutdown defender.
Danielson will have to prove he can defend in the NHL, but the centerman will very likely be invited to training camp.
