The Detroit Red Wings announced they'd be retiring the jersey of Sergei Fedorov this season, which is long overdue.
However, there are some other legendary players who haven't had their jerseys retired. Heading into the season, here are five NHL legends who deserve to have their jersey numbers retired.
5 NHL legends who deserve to have their jersey numbers retired
#5, Henrik Zetterberg
Henrik Zetterberg was a key reason for the Detroit Red Wings' dynasty, as the Swede helped them win the Stanley Cup in 2008, and he won the Conn Smythe as playoff MVP.
Zetterberg has yet to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, which is a surprise, so perhaps Detroit is waiting for him to get inducted before retiring his jersey.
But, Zetterberg played his entire career with Detroit, skating in 1,082 games, 337 goals, and 623 assists for 960 points.
#4, Patrice Bergeron
Patrice Bergeron is a Boston Bruins legend, and his jersey should be in the rafters.
Bergeron played his entire 19-year career with the Bruins and served as captain from 2021 until 2023. He helped Boston win the Stanley Cup 2011 and ended his career with 1,294 games played with 427 goals and 613 assists for 1,040.
Bergeron will be a future Hall of Famer and should have his jersey retired by the Bruins.
#3, Zdeno Chara
Another former Boston Bruin who should have his jersey retired is Zdeno Chara.
Chara played 24 seasons in the NHL, with 14 years in Boston, as he played over 1000 career games with the Bruins. He served as the captain for all 14 years and was a fan-favorite.
Chara helped the Bruins win the Stanley Cup in 2011. He and Bergeron should both have their jerseys retired.
#2, Ryan Getzlaf

Ryan Getzlaf's #15 should be retired by the Anaheim Ducks.
Getzlaf played his entire NHL career with the Ducks and is the franchise's all-time leading scorer. He helped Anaheim win its first and only Stanley Cup in 2007.
Getzlaf also now works for the team, but he was a legend in Anaheim, and his jersey should be in the rafters.
#1, Carey Price
Carey Price was a legend for the Montreal Canadiens, and his jersey should be retired by the team.
Price played his entire career for the Canadiens and is considered one of the best goalies of all time. Price is the winningest goaltender in Canadiens history, which boosts his resume to get his jersey retired.
Price led the Canadiens to the Cup Final in 2021. He also won MVP and a Vezina in his career and should have his jersey retired.
