It's an Original 6 clash in one of the true hotbeds of hockey on Tuesday night, as the noted historic and divisional rivals Boston Bruins and Toronto Maple Leafs renew acquaintances at Scotiabank Arena in downtown Toronto.
The Bruins are coming off consecutive shutout victories, having defeated the Philadelphia Flyers and Seattle Kraken by 3-0 and 2-0 scores, respectively; their record is 6-6-1 through 13 games. Meanwhile, the Leafs are not only hoping to avenge their 4-3 overtime loss to the Bruins on Oct. 26 in Boston, but are also hoping to bounce back after consecutive losses.
They were recently felled by the Minnesota Wild by a 2-1 final score in overtime, while head coach Craig Berube's return to St. Louis was unsuccessful; the Blues beat the Leafs 4-2. Through 13 games, the Leafs are 6-5-2.
Ahead of the matchup between the two rivals, let's take a look at the projected lineup of the Bruins.
Projected Bruins lineup
Forwards
- Brad Marchand - Elias Lindholm - David Pastrnak
- Pavel Zacha - Charlie Coyle - Justin Brazeau
- Trent Frederic - Matthew Poitras - Morgan Geekie
- John Beecher - Mark Kastelic - Cole Koepke
Not surprisingly, the Bruins' offensive attack is once again being led by sniper David Pastrnak. His six goals and five assists for 11 points are the most on the team, while captain Brad Marchand's 10 points (3G, 7A) are second.
Newcomer Elias Lindholm, who signed over the summer as a free agent, is second on the Bruins with six assists.
Defensemen
- Nikita Zadorov - Charlie McAvoy
- Hampus Lindholm - Brandon Carlo
- Parker Wotherspoon - Andrew Peeke
Both McAvoy and Lindholm lead the way for the Bruins in terms of total ice time with an average of 23:29 and 21:22, respectively. First-year Boston defenseman Zadorov, another offseason free agent signing, averages 18:42 of ice time per game.
Goaltenders
- Jeremy Swayman
- Joonas Korpisalo
Boston's goaltending situation prior to the start of the situation appeared murky at best, as Swayman and management were engaged in a public and bitter standoff. However, the two sides eventually came to an eight-year contract agreement in time for the campaign.
Swayman's numbers are pedestrian compared for the contract he received, as he's 4-4 with a 3.26 goals-against average and a .895 save percentage.
Meanwhile, Korpisalo is in his first year with the Bruins after being acquired in the offseason deal that sent Linus Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators. He's 2-2 with a 2.70 goals-against average.
The puck is scheduled to drop in Toronto at 7:00 PM EST.
