Looking at the Montreal Canadiens season so far and their schedule for the rest of October
Despite making some notable offseason acquisitions to bolster their roster, the Montreal Canadiens have not been the team many fans hoped for.
In their season opener, the Habs got off to a hot start, shutting out the Toronto Maple Leafs thanks to impressive netminding from Samuel Montembeault. In their first road game of the season, which served as the second leg of a back-to-back, the team fell to the Boston Bruins.
They bounced back with a 4-1 win over the Ottawa Senators to close out the opening week of the 2024-25 season. Then, they lost four straight, struggling to find consistency.
Their losing streak began with a 6-3 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Oct. 14, which then led to another home loss later in the week to the LA Kings on Oct. 17. Two days later, the team attempted to bounce back against the Islanders but wound up losing a shootout 4-3.
The Canadiens fell to the New York Rangers 7-2, for their fourth straight loss. A 5-2 win over the St. Louis Blues gave them a 3-4-1 record before the Philadelphia clash.
On their side, the Flyers (2-5-1) snapped a six-game losing streak on Saturday, beating the Minnesota Wild 7-5 at home behind Sean Couturier's hat trick.
Following Sunday's game against the Flyers, the Canadiens will close out the month of October with an Oct. 29 meeting against the Kraken, and an Oct. 31 road game against the Capitals.
