The New York Rangers made it to the Eastern Conference Finals this past season but lost to the eventual champions, the Florida Panthers. New York had a 2-1 lead but lost three straight to go down in the series.
Since the Rangers have been eliminated, the focus has turned to the offseason. The NHL Draft is set for June 28-29 while free agency opens up on July 1. The Rangers have just four picks in the draft but do have their first-round pick.
Using NHLEntryDraft.com, a mock draft simulator, here is a New York Rangers mock draft.
New York Rangers 2024 NHL Mock Draft
Round 1, Pick 30: Ryder Ritcher, RW
With the 30th pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, the New York Rangers select right winger Ryder Ritchie from the Prince Albert Raiders of the WHL.
Ritchie is a playmaker and had a growth spurt this past season to reach 6' in height, which will help his draft stock. The skilled winger can be a top-six forward who can set up goal-scorers.
With Prince Albert this past season, Ritchie recorded 19 goals and 25 assists for 44 points.
Round 4, Pick 127: Alexis Bernier, D
New York will go nearly 100 picks after their first-round selection, and with their second pick of the draft, the Rangers might select defenseman Alexis Bernier.
He plays for the Baie-Comeau Drakkar of the QMJHL and this past season, he recorded 4 goals and 27 assists for 31 points in 67 games.
Bernier has good size and can skate well, which should give him a chance to eventually make the NHL.
Round 5, Pick 159: Riley Patterson, C
The New York Rangers may select Riley Patterson as a centerman from the Barrie Colts of the OHL with the 159th pick.
Patterson played one year in the OHL and made an immediate impact as he recorded 29 goals and 33 assists for 62 points in 68 games. He was one of Barrie's top offensive players.
Patterson is a solid two-way player but one knock on him is lack of physicality.
Round 6, Pick 191: Axel Nyman, G
With the Rangers' final pick of the 2024 NHL Draft, New York takes a flier on goalie Axel Nyman.
He is a Swedish goalie who struggled at the U18 tournament which likely impacted his draft stock. He had a 4.99 GAA and a .825 SV%. But, considering goalies take a longer time to develop, it's worth a shot at seeing what he can turn into in five to seven years from now.
