Terry Pegula, the billionaire owner of the Buffalo Sabres, was excited to watch his daughter, Jessica Pegula, at the U.S. Open. On Friday, Jessica reached her first grand slam final by beating Karolina Muchova 1-6, 6-4, 6-2. She came back after losing the first set.
Journalist and tennis commentator Jose Morgado posted on X (formerly Twitter):
"Terry Pegula, owner of the Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres (and many many more), happy to watch his daughter reach a first Grand Slam final!"
Terry Pegula, worth $7.7 billion (according to Forbes), watched from a private box with his oldest daughter Laura in the front row at Arthur Ashe Stadium. His younger children and Jessica’s husband were seated closer to the court.
Terry Pegula built his fortune in oil and gas before buying the Buffalo Sabres for $189 million in 2011. The team is now valued at $750 million. He also bought the Buffalo Bills for $1.4 billion in 2014, and they are now worth $4.2 billion.
Bills owner Terry Pegula adds Laura Pegula as part owner of Bills
Terry is the majority owner of the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres. He shared equal ownership with his wife, Kim Pegula, who suffered a heart attack and brain impairment in 2022. Terry petitioned a Florida court in February 2023 to declare Kim incapacitated. He became her legal guardian in March 2023. Many of Kim's assets were placed in a trust, with Terry and Bob Long as co-trustees.
Jessica, Terry and Kim’s oldest child, shared details about her mother's health. She revealed Kim has memory and speech issues, but the family remains private about her condition.
To follow NFL rules for team succession, Pegula transferred a small share of the Bills to his daughter, Laura, who has become more involved in family businesses and team operations and has attended league meetings and represented the Pegulas at events.
The Bills and the Sabres have seen leadership changes. John Roth, hired as COO for both teams in early 2023, was fired later that year. In March 2024, Pete Guelli was hired as COO for both teams; he will manage their business operations.
