It was a memorable outing for Alex Ovechkin against the San Jose Sharks. Ovechkin scored twice and assisted once in the third period of the game, helping his team complete an 8-3 rout.

Ovechkin has now scored at least once against 168 different goalkeepers in the NHL. He is the third player to achieve this feat after Jaromir Jagr (178) and Patrick Marleau (177). He has also surpassed Stan Mikita on the all-time points list with his 130th three-point game and recorded his 27th multi-goal third period.

NHL Twitter reacted to his achievement, here are a few such tweets:

The 37-year-old started his professional journey with the Washington Capitals in the 2005-06 season and has played more than 1,330 games since. Ovechkin has scored 855 goals (including 124 game-winning goals) and has assisted 655 more.

With 1,470 points to his name, he needs just 30 more points to breach that exclusive 1,500-point club. Ovechkin has been a presence during powerplays with 295 goals and 292 assists.

The 2018 Stanley Cup winner has played 59 games this season. He has been involved in 60 goals while spending more than 20 minutes on the ice per game. He has also scored ten powerplay goals and three game-winning goals.

The Washington Capitals' 2022-23 season

The Washington Capitals have been inconsistent this season and are currently sixth in the Eastern Conference Metropolitan Division with 68 points.

The Capitals have done well on offense, scoring 192 goals in 64 games. Their defense concedes less than three goals per game.

Washington's goaltenders have played well, with a combined save percentage of over 0.908.

The Capitals are currently out of the playoff spot, but only by three points. With a bit more consistency, there is a real chance Washington can make a playoff run this season.

Alex Ovechkin will be key to this as the top scorer for the team. The Capitals are on a two-game winning run and will look to defeat the Los Angeles Kings in their next matchup. This will be a real challenge as the Kings are second in the Pacific Division and are on a three-game winning streak themselves.

Keep an eye out for this one on March 6, 2023.
