On a recent episode of TSN Overdrive, Montour talked about his experience winning the Cup with the Florida Panthers. He also dove into the decision-making process that went into signing with the up-and-coming Kraken.

Montour said:

“There were conversations. When I looked at the roster and myself, I thought I could definitely help and it was intriguing. But there’s a lot that goes into (free agency) with my family and what they need as well as business decisions.”

The Cup-champion defenseman added:

“There were definitely talks and we thought about it, but there were tons of options for us and we’re obviously grateful for Seattle and that experience.”

While Montour chose Seattle, the Leafs signed his former teammate, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, to a four-year deal. It remains to be seen if both Montour and Ekman-Larsson will succeed with their new clubs. Given the blueliners’ experience and resume, they should quickly become key contributors to their new teams.
