Clayton Keller’s professional hockey career

Hockey was something Clayton Keller and his younger brother Jake enjoyed as kids in the basement of their home. The basement walls were transformed into an ice hockey rink with pictures of Keller's favorite NHL players, likw Sidney Crosby, Patrick Kane, Pavel Datsyuk, Alexander Ovechkin and Evgeni Malkin.

When Keller's mother took him to a high school game when he was 3, his love for the sport was ignited. He joined a team of young athletes from the St. Louis region that includes Luke Opilka, Luke Kunin and Matthew Tkachuk after being inspired by the experience.

Keller represented the St. Louis Blues minor league at the Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey tournament in 2010 and 2011, demonstrating his early talent. He played against the St. Louis Blues at his home arena, Scottrade Centre, the day after making his NHL debut. Although the Coyotes lost that game 4-1, Keller skated on a line with Alexander Burmistrov and Christian Fischer.

The hockey star collected his first point in his debut game at the Gila River Arena by helping set up Alex Goligoski's third-period goal, which also happened to be the Coyotes' lone goal in a 3-1 loss. Keller only played three games in the 2016–17 season but contributed two assists.

After winning the heart of coach Rick Tocchet, the right winger started at the Coyotes' top offensive line at the start of the 2017–18 campaign. He made an immediate impact by scoring his first NHL goal in the Coyotes' 5-4 win over the Anaheim Ducks in the season opener.
