Jason Robertson was the subject of trade rumors last week, with the Dallas Stars considering moving the star winger. However, the team has now put any potential Robertson trade on hold according to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman.

Friedman reported that the trade rumors regarding Robertson were accurate. The Stars were frustrated after their playoff exit against Edmonton and looked at major roster changes, including potentially trading Robertson.

“It’s been a wild week around Jason Robertson, and honestly, everything reported about him during that time was accurate.” Friedman said on his “32 Thoughts” podcast.

There was interest from Dallas in gauging Robertson's trade value, as they wanted to understand the return they could get for the winger before making long-term decisions about the roster.

"If Robertson was to be moved, it would've taken one of two things: either a great player coming back, or a package that helped them replenish what they gave up to acquire (Mikko) Rantanen—maybe top draft picks or a talented young player." Friedman said.

The contract situation also plays a role. Friedman noted that Robertson has one year left on his 4-year, $31,000,000 deal but two more years of team control before hitting unrestricted free agency. Dallas wants to see what an extension would look like before deciding on potentially trading him.

"So right now, it seems like everything is on hold until there’s clarity on his long-term future in Dallas.” Friedman added.

Robertson completed an outstanding regular season with 35 goals and 80 points. He has six points in 11 playoff games.

Elliotte Friedman reflects on Dallas Stars' "major decisions" moving forward

The Dallas Stars had a wild playoff ride this past season. They pulled off a big first-round upset by knocking out the Colorado Avalanche in seven games, then took down the Winnipeg Jets in six to move on to the Western Conference Finals.

But their playoff journey ended after the Edmonton Oilers eliminated them in just five games. According to Elliotte Friedman, the way the Stars lost Game 5—by a 6-3 margin—and the series as a whole left the organization shocked and frustrated.

"After big series wins over Colorado and Winnipeg, Dallas was stunned by how things fell apart against Edmonton—and especially by how that final game unraveled. That frustration played a role in Peter DeBoer’s firing, and the team began considering major decisions." Friedman said.

With the Stars having fired head coach Peter DeBoer, more offseason changes could be on the way.
