The New Jersey Devils are on the road to play the Edmonton Oilers on Monday at 8:30 p.m. ET. New Jersey (7-5-2) is coming off a 3-0 shutout loss to the Calgary Flames on Friday. Meanwhile, Edmonton (6-5-1) is coming off a 3-2 win over Calgary on Sunday.

Before the Devils' showdown against the Oilers tonight, here's what their projected lines are expected to look like.

Predicted Devils lineup

Forwards

  • Timo Meier - Nico Hischier - Dawson Mercer
  • Ondrej Palat - Jack Hughes - Jesper Bratt
  • Paul Cotter - Erik Haula - Stefan Noesen
  • Kurtis MacDermid - Justin Dowling - Tomas Tatar

The Devils have a solid forward group, as they average 3.57 goals per game. However, New Jersey was shut out in its last game against Calgary after exploding for six goals against the Vancouver Canucks in the previous game.

"I don't know if we ever really found our legs," New Jersey coach Sheldon Keefe said about the loss. "It was clear from the first period we didn't have our legs, we didn't have our hands here today.
"It was one of those games where we were going to have to play really good defensively to hang around, which I thought we did. I don't think we gave up very much at all until the very end.
"You've just got to hope you can find your game, get a little bit of pace to it, get one to go in and take control of the game. We weren't able to do that. We cracked at the end, and they had an opportunity to score two. That's the game."

Defensemen

  • Brenden Dillon - Dougie Hamilton
  • Jonas Sigenthaler - Johnathan Kovacevic
  • Luke Hughes - Brett Pesce

New Jersey has one of the best blue lines in the entire NHL. The team plays well defensively but can also add some scoring from the back end.

Goalies

  • Jacob Markstrom
  • Jake Allen

Markstrom is expected to get the start on Monday. He is 5-4-1 with a 2.62 GAA and a .907 SV%.

Devils vs. Oilers: Preview

New Jersey should come out strong here, as it is coming off a disappointing loss to the Flames.

On the other hand, Edmonton is on a back-to-back, and the Oilers should have tired legs here. New Jersey will come out strong, get out to an early lead and hang on, backed by a stellar performance from Markstrom.

Prediction: Devils 3, Oilers 2.
