Don Cherry shared his take after the Edmonton Oilers were dominated 6-1 by the Florida Panthers in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final on Monday.
Cherry acknowledged the team’s resilience despite the lopsided score.
“It was a tough Game 3 for the Oilers, but at least they went down swinging,” he wrote on X.
Edmonton piled up 21 penalties and 85 penalty minutes, the highest total in a Stanley Cup Final game since 1986. In comparison, the Panthers finished with 55 penalty minutes.
The Oilers got into trouble with four penalties in the first period, three of which came from offensive zone infractions. The second period saw just one Edmonton penalty, but things unraveled in the third.
The game boiled over when forward Trent Frederic went after Sam Bennett, setting off a chaotic brawl involving all 10 skaters on the ice. Emotions ran high, and further scraps followed. Edmonton was hit with 16 penalties in the final frame alone.

The series shifts to Game 4 in Florida on Thursday, with the Oilers hoping to even things up.
