Trent Frederic is still getting used to being a member of the Edmonton Oilers.
The depth forward was acquired at the trade deadline in a three-way deal with the Boston Bruins, who received draft picks in return.
Frederic was hurt at the time of the trade, dealing with a lower-body injury suffered in a game against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Feb. 25. He suited up in just one regular-season game as an Oiler before jumping right into the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
While they're hoping he's able to provide even more moving forward, Edmonton appears to like what they have in Trent Frederic. Sportsnet NHL insider Elliotte Friedman shared in the recent episode of "32 Thoughts: The Podcast" that the Oilers are working on an extension to retain their deadline acquisition. Friedman shared the link to the podcast on X on Saturday.
"Yes, there was something interesting I heard at the game on Friday," Friedman said (18:44). "Kyle, I have to tell you, one of the things that's being rumored around here is that Trent Frederick might be sticking around. like not leaving, sticking around.
"So, we'll see. I mean, I can't imagine we're gonna find out during the final; they've got more important things to worry about. But that was something I heard in around the building tonight. And as the playoffs have gone on, I mean, he's looked more and more comfortable in Edmonton colors, and you can see why they targeted him at the deadline."
Frederic is in the final season of the two-year, $4.6 million contract extension signed with the Bruins in 2023.
Trent Frederic is in awe of his new teammate Connor McDavid
Now that Trent Frederic is teammates with Connor McDavid, he's begun to appreciate him and his work ethic that much more. The NHL Network shared his full interview on X om Wednesday.
"It's great, I mean, he's 100% on hockey," Frederic said. "Doesn't leave any stone unturned in anything. You just think of him as this god-given talent, which I'm sure a lot of it is. But he really puts in the work and does everything to prepare for the game. It really is amazing."
The best of the best certainly put in the work, along with having the talent to make them as great as they are.
Frederic and the Oilers are back in action for Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Finals against the Panthers on Monday in Florida. The puck drops at 8 p.m. EST at Amerant Bank Arena.
