New Boston Bruins additions Nikita Zadorov and Elias Lindholm displayed their baseball skills on Friday when they were invited to throw the ceremonial first pitch before the Boston Red Sox game against the Chicago White Sox at Fenway Park.
Video footage shows Zadorov and Lindholm taking the mound in Red Sox jerseys to throw their pitches.
Fans on social media had some fun at the hockey players' expense. One fan joked,
"Good thing they are hockey players lmao" in response to the poor first pitches.
Another fan wrote,
"It never ceases to amaze me how badly pro athletes suck at throwing out the first pitch"
Here are some fan reactions:
"lmao can’t blame these guys for chasing the bag , some players rather take the money than actually being a team player." one fan wrote on X.
"Boston is gonna love those two!!!" another fan commented.
"My grandma can throw better" a user commented.
"#Canucks fans rushing out to buy Red Sox jerseys and eventually celebrate a Vancouver World Series win by association." another user wrote.
The Bruins acquired the two players in the offseason to help strengthen their roster. Zadorov, a defenseman, put up 5 goals and 9 assists last season with Vancouver. Lindholm, a center, contributed 6 goals and 6 assists in 26 games.
Nikita Zadorov on his move to Boston Bruins
Nikita Zadorov expressed excitement about joining the team while speaking with reporters in July. Zadorov believes he and the Bruins are a strong fit:
"I feel like [Boston] fits my mentality as well: win or nothing. This city is so culturally engaged in sports. All four teams here are always winning and competing for championships, and fans expect you to win every year. I like that pressure, and I think it drives me.”
The physical defenseman then sent a powerful message to Bruins fans, clarifying that winning the Stanley Cup is his main motivation for signing with Boston:
"I signed here because I want my chance to win a championship. I'm really invested in what I do, and I'm putting all my heart in it.
Looking ahead to his new chapter with the Original Six franchise, Nikita Zadorov made it clear he is fully committed to helping bring another title to Boston.
"I'm here for six years, and I will put my heart into being a Bruin and trying to win the Stanley Cup here." Zadorov added.
As Boston looks to be a contender next season, Nikita Zadorov's arrival could prove to be a crucial piece in the team's Stanley Cup quest.
