HC Patrick Roy makes eye-catching statement after Islanders' fifth loss in six games

New York Islanders coach Patrick Roy shared his thoughts following a 6-3 loss to the Boston Bruins at the UBS Arena on Wednesday. Pavel Zacha scored twice in the third period to seal Boston's win, handing New York its fifth defeat in six games.

Brad Marchand scored two goals, and David Pastrnak added three assists for Boston, while Joonas Korpisalo made 21 saves, as the Bruins bounced back after a 2-0 loss to the Vancouver Canucks the night before.

Roy praised the Islanders' work ethic and highlighted the positives, even in tough times. He acknowledged the team’s struggles, with mistakes in key moments, but sounded confident in their effort to bounce back.

“I love these guys," Roy said. "They work hard for me. Every night, they're pushing. This is the team that Lou gave me, and I'm going to work extremely hard for these guys. I owe this to the players and to our fans."

The Bruins made a brisk start, with Brad Marchand scoring 57 seconds into the first period before adding another minutes later.

The Islanders responded with a goal from Maxim Tsyplakov in the first period before Brock Nelson scored his first of two goals in the second, tying the game at 2-2. Morgan Geekie put Boston back inro the lead, but Nelson tied it again with eight seconds left in the second.

In the third period, Pavel Zacha stepped up for the Bruins, redirecting Andrew Peeke’s shot to make it 4-3 before scoring again off a pass from David Pastrnak. Nikita Zadorov sealed Boston's win with an empty-net goal. The Islanders tried hard but were hurt by costly mistakes.

On Monday, the Detroit Red Wings won 4-2 against the New York Islanders at the UBS Arena. Lucas Raymond scored the go-ahead goal with 6:07 left, tipping Simon Edvinsson's shot. Dylan Larkin also scored before Edvinsson added an empty-net goal.
