Matthew Tkachuk had 88 points last season as part of the championship run the Florida Panthers went on. He was one of their most impactful and successful players. The natural inclination is for a player in his prime, like the forward, to continue improving. That could mean an even more impressive point total in 2024.
"How many points will #StanleyCup champion Matthew Tkachuk put up in 2024-25?" NHL posted on X.
The NHL posed the question, setting the over/under at 95. That would be a seven-point improvement, which is no small feat. However, Tkachuk actually experienced a down year last season. He had scored over 100 points in the last two seasons. NHL fans are divided on whether or not he'll get back to those heights.
Some fans foresee an improvement and a return to the heights he has achieved in the past. Others don't and think the circumstances won't be kind to Tkachuk.
"Under," another fan said.
"4 goals 6 assists 10 points in 12 games, buddies gonna run his mouth too much and get badly injured," one fan said.
"Over 10," another fan said.
Tkachuk had a bright season last year, but it remains to be seen if he can top it and return to his former glory.
Matthew Tkachuk reflects on Stanley Cup Final win
The Florida Panthers were sitting pretty when they took a three-game to none lead in the Stanley Cup Final. They had it in the bag, as that is the safest lead in sports. The Edmonton Oilers proceeded to win three games and even it up, putting all pressure on the Panthers.
Matthew Tkachuk and company proved to be up to the task, though. In front of a raucous crowd at home, they won 2-1 in Game 7 and avoided a disastrous series collapse. After that, Tkachuk said via Forbes that it was an unreal situation:
“It's the most amazing feeling. Just seeing what the Stanley Cup means to so many people, how people react around it, just being a champion and people coming up to me, it's actually pretty cool.”
He went on to add that he was "confident" in their Game 7 since they were playing in front of their own crowds. That confidence proved to be perfectly appropriate as they won and earned the first title in franchise history.
