On Saturday, the Vancouver Canucks posted on X (formerly Twitter) about goaltender Arturs Silovs participating in the World Rally Championship in Latvia. Founded in 1973, the World Rally Championship is a major international rally series and the second oldest FIA world championship after Formula One.
The World Rally Championship also shared the post on Instagram, saying:
"From skating on ice to sliding on gravel, @canucks goalie @arturssilovs1 got an all-new thrill at Tet Rally Latvia 🇱🇻."
Silovs' appearance at the World Rally Championship in Latvia garnered a lot of reactions from NHL fans on X.
"Insurance won’t like that," one fan said.
"Racer? Goalie? Why not both," another fan said.

Goalie turned race car driver. That made me think of someone. Greg Moore from Maple Ridge BC," one fan said.

"He’ll be starter by November when Demko goes down in game 6," one fan said.
"Šilovs can enjoy the World Rally Championship all he wants, but what we need is focus on the ice, not distractions off it. We need performance, not just appearances," another fan said.
"he's trying to find a new job, the west has been conquered by the Edmonton oilers and he knows his place," one fan said.
Canucks sign goalie Arturs Silovs to 2-year contract
Vancouver Canucks GM Patrik Allvin announced a 2-year contract for goaltender Arturs Silovs, with a cap hit of $850,000 per year, on Tuesday. On the "Canucks Conversation" podcast, David Quadrelli, Irfaan Gaffar, and guest Kevin Woodley discussed Silovs' deal.
Woodley found the contract slightly high and noted Silovs had minimal leverage due to a limited track record and no arbitration rights.
“I thought the money might be a little high. To me, this was always a max 1.1 kind of deal,” Woodley said (via canucksarmy.com). “The reality is [Silovs] had no bargaining leverage whatsoever; his track record is incredibly small, and the raw numbers don’t jump off the table. He has no arbitration rights..."
Woodley thought $1.1 million was the most fair and Silovs needs to prove his value for a future long-term deal.
Arturs Silovs was drafted by Vancouver in the sixth round of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft but has only played nine regular season games.
In four NHL games with Vancouver this season, Arturs Silovs had a 3-0-1 record, a 2.47 GAA, and an .881 save percentage. He also had a notable playoff debut with the Canucks, playing 10 games with a 5-5 record, a 2.91 GAA, and an .898 save percentage.
