Boston Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman had a fun interaction with New England Sports Network (NESN) analyst and former NHL goalie Andrew Raycroft on air during their game against the New York Islanders.
Raycroft made his debut with the Bruins in 2000. He spent the majority of his 15 seasons in Boston while also playing for the Maple Leafs, Avalanche, Canucks and the Stars. He transitioned into a broadcaster and joined NESN in the offseason to become a rinkside and studio analyst.
Ahead of the game on Wednesday, while Raycroft was reporting back to his colleagues at the NESN studios, Jeremy Swayman started warming up in the rink in front of Raycroft blocking his view of the camera. The 44-year-old immediately understood that his successor in the Bruins jersey was messing with him.
"Not distracted in any way whatsoever. I am true pro. Doesn't bother me. Doesn't effect me in any way whatsoever. Everyone's having fun. It's Thanksgiving game, so guys are excited," Raycroft said on air.
After the game, Swayman watched the clip on NESN's social media handles. The Bruins #1 took to Instagram to react to the amusing incident. He complimented the analyst, writing:
"Rayzor's always locked in."
Jeremy Swayman had a scheduled off day, that meant Joonas Korpisalo starting in goal for the team. The latter conceded three goals but his offense scored twice as many securing a 6-3 win. Brad Marchand and Pavel Zacha scored braces while Morgan Geekie and Nikita Zadorov scored one each.
Andrew Raycroft was not concerned with Jeremy Swayman's held up contract talks
In the offseason, the Bruins were uncertain if they would be able to pass the torch of their goaltending responsibilities from Linus Ullmark to young blood Jeremy Swayman. Both parties had avoided arbitration and the contract talks stalled.
There was no talks about Swayman returning to Bruins being a certainty. Yet Andrew Raycroft was confident that when the free market would have gotten going, the extension would be signed by the goalie.
"No level of concern. No updates, haven’t heard a thing. Everybody’s gone. The hockey world — everybody is gone. Since July 7 when that development camp shut down the last one in the league, everybody is gone. There’s really no reason for fans to be worried about a contract until September," Raycroft said on WEEI’s The Skate Pod.
Even though September passed away, the Bruins were able to lock up Swayman to an eight-year $66 million deal.
