Johnny Gaudreau's mom, Jane, shared her feelings after the Calgary Flames invited the Gaudreau family to their game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. The family will be in Calgary on December 3 for a tribute to Johnny, honoring his time with the team and his community work.
The family looks forward to reconnecting with friends in Calgary, a city that has been a big part of their lives. Jane expressed her thanks to the Flames and Calgary fans for their ongoing support since the tragic loss of Johnny and his brother Matthew in August. She said (via Sportsnet.com):
"We are deeply grateful to the Flames organization for inviting us back. Guy and I, along with our entire family, are looking forward to reconnecting with many friends in Calgary."
The last few months have been tough for Jane and her husband, Guy. Thanksgiving was especially hard as they faced their first holiday without their sons. Despite the pain, Jane found comfort in the support from Calgary.
"The love and support so many have shown for John, Matty, and our entire family has helped us through the hardest time of our lives," Jane said.
After the brothers' death, fans came together to pay their respects. They left flowers, jerseys, and other tributes at the Saddledome.
Jane talked about how Calgary became like family to them. She recalled watching Johnny grow from a college player to an NHL star. The Gaudreau family is proud of Johnny's journey and the memories they made in Calgary.
“The Flames organization and the Calgary fans have been a special part of our lives for over 13 incredible years. Some of the friendships we’ve made here have become like family to us, and we will always cherish the memories we’ve created together,” said Jane.

Johnny Gaudreau and Matthew's family celebrated their first Thanksgiving without the two brothers. On Sunday, Johnny’s sister Katie shared a throwback photo from eight years ago on Instagram. The picture, originally posted by their sister Kristen, showed the siblings and their partners on a couch.
The photo included Matthew with his wife Madeline, Kristen, Katie, and Kristen’s husband. Katie captioned it,
“Happy Thanksgiving! ❤️ missin @johngaudreau03 #thankful.”
Madeline wore a light gray sweater, and Matthew had a gray tracksuit jacket and a dark cap. Kristen wore a green Philadelphia Eagles hoodie, and Katie had on a checkered shirt. Kristen’s husband sat on the floor in a red baseball cap and a gray Eagles sweatshirt.
