Matvei Michkov’s visit to the Philadelphia Flyers Training Center marks a significant shift in his career. Previously seen playing air hockey before the 2023 NHL draft, Michkov is now preparing to play actual hockey as a Philadelphia Flyer.
Michkov has returned to the U.S. ahead of schedule. Drafted seventh overall by the Flyers last summer, Michkov was expected to stay in the KHL for another three years. However, his recent release from SKA St. Petersburg has accelerated his move to the NHL.

NHL fans quickly reacted to the news.
"This is sick ! Flyers just got a lot more interesting to watch," one fan said.
"Just give him the Calder already," another fan commented.
"About time. I mean, what took so long? You'd think they'd have better things to do than let some guy get away for this long. Anyway, now that he's caught, let's make sure the justice system does its job and holds him accountable. #JusticeForAll," a fan tweeted.
