Legendary coach Bruce Boudreau was on the "Spittin' Chiclets" podcast with former hockey players Paul Bissonnette and Ryan Whitney on Tuesday. The two players have adopted media careers following their playing days, and they got the chance to be involved with the legendary coach's interview.
Boudreau was asked how he would have game-planned for the two of them, and he was blunt about Bissonnette:
"Well, I'll start with Biz. There was really no game plan because he never got on the ice. So I mean, if we saw him a couple times in the first period, you'd worry about him, but after that, we get a lead, and then you never saw Biz on the ice." (1:23:00)
Bissonnette played six years, five of which were with the Pheonix Coyotes, who are now defunct. His first year in the league was with the Pittsburgh Penguins. He averaged 5:18 minutes on the ice for his career, and Boudreau couldn't resist taking a shot about it.
Whitney chimed in that Boudreau must've told his players not to fight Bissonnette since they wanted him on the ice as it negatively impacted the opposing team. Whitney landed a little more praise from the legendary NHL coach, who said he always had to make sure Whitney was covered.
Paul Bissonnette involved in major fight
Though he's not in the NHL anymore, Paul Bissonnette's fighting days didn't end with retirement. He was reportedly involved in a major dust-up with seven people at a steakhouse in Scottsdale, Arizona, on Sunday evening when things got testy.
Via ESPN, he revealed that he tried to step in and help restaurant staff who were being berated:
"You could tell by his face he (the manager) was a little shocked and surprised and stunned. It's a family restaurant and there wasn't anyone there who could maybe go help him out, so I went over, grabbed the guy and said: 'Sir, if you're going to assault and harass the staff, we're going to have problems.'"
Members of that group then began throwing punches in a fight that spilled out into the streets outside the restaurant. According to the former NHLer, Bissonnette was kicked in the head three times and took and landed several blows on his attackers. Per reports, six people have been arrested for the assault.
