Earlier on Saturday, the New York Rangers decided to send hard-nosed forward Matt Rempe to their American Hockey League affiliate Hartford Wolf Pack in a roster move that has plenty of fans unhappy.

Shortly after the news was announced, frustrated Rangers fans took to social media to express disappointment in the decision, many of whom expressed their feelings of having hoped for Rempe to remain a regular in the lineup and get more ice time.

"Let the poor kid stay in hartford for a bit to develop please," wrote @brrookieccookie.
"Hey let’s mindf*ck Rempe, it’s gonna be fun! -Recalled to Wolfpack -Called up to Rangers -Recalled to Wolfpack -??? -Success?" exclaimed @SageOnX
"You guys are managing him poorly. Bring him up to fight and then send him down. Who are we, the Flyers?" opined @la_fronz.
"Coach is a clown!" exclaimed @SaltCavern.
"No point of bringing him back for one game just to send him back down kinda doing him dirty now should’ve just left him there," added @Level_Ameer
"Up, down, up, down, up again, down again. This is going to be tough on Rempe's development because of the inconsistency of being in NHL / AHL, at a time when he was developing an attacking skillset to help him stay in the NYR system - was one of the hardest workers in preseason," wrote @kettu0_.
"You guys suck the people want to see the kid play , gonna loose another one when he asks to be traded," added @J70490650.

It's clear that Rempe has endeared himself to a large portion of the Rangers fan base who would like to see him remain up with the club rather than toil in the minors, but the choice has been made by New York management - for now.

Matt Rempe has appeared in only three games this season with the Rangers

A native of Calgary, Rempe was taken with the 165th overall pick in the 2020 NHL Draft by the Rangers while playing with the Spruce Grove Saints of the AJHL.

He got his feet wet at the NHL level for the first time last season, appearing in 17 games and registering a goal and an assist along with 71 penalty minutes for multiple fights. Additionally, he played in 11 postseason games and added another goal.

He's played in three games this season and has one fighting major after a spirited bout with Dylan McIlrath of the Washington Capitals.

It will be up to him to make a good impression in the American Hockey League in order to justify a call-up back to the Rangers at some point in the season.
