Quinn Hughes has become the Vancouver Canucks' all-time leader in assists by a defenseman, passing Alex Edler. The milestone assist came during the second period against the Detroit Red Wings when Hughes set up Jake DeBrusk’s goal to tie the game 1-1.
NHL tweeted the clip of the goal and captioned it as follows:
"HISTORY FOR HUGHES! 🐳 With his assist on this goal, Quinn Hughes is now the all-time leader in assists by a defenseman for the @Canucks !"
NHL fans quickly reacted to the achievement on X:
“What a milestone for Hughes. #Canucks.” One fan said.
"If they had a dman of similar quality during the Sedin era I’m sure they walk away with 1 or 2 cups" a fan mentioned.
"I think he should go to the devils and have the whole fam together lol anyway congrats great player" another fan shared.
However, not all reactions were positive:

Hughes led the Canucks to the playoffs as captain last season, scoring 92 points including 17 goals and 75 assists. He has 27 points with 5 goals and 22 assists so far this season. His importance to the Canucks and his status as one of the NHL’s top defensemen is on the rise with each passing day.
Quinn Hughes led Canucks to a 5-4 overtime win against Red Wings
The Vancouver Canucks secured a 5-4 overtime win against the Detroit Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena. Detroit struck first with Jonatan Berggren’s snap shot, assisted by Erik Gustafsson and Marco Kasper in the first period.
Jake DeBrusk tied the game early in the second with a power-play tip-in. Elias Pettersson and Quinn Hughes assisted. Minutes later, DeBrusk scored again on the power play with a wrist shot, assisted by Hughes. Alex DeBrincat leveled the game for Detroit with a slap shot before Pius Suter restored Vancouver's lead with a wrist shot.
In the third, Michael Rasmussen tied it for Detroit with a power-play snap shot. Vladimir Tarasenko gave Detroit a 4-3 lead soon after. Erik Brannstrom equalized for Vancouver late in the period with a slap shot.
In overtime, DeBrusk completed his hat trick, banging in the winner. Pettersson and Hughes provided the assists. Vancouver now leads the season series 1-0.
