The Toronto Maple Leafs return home to host the Boston Bruins on Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET.
Toronto (6-5-2) is coming off a 2-1 OT loss to Minnesota on Sunday. Meanwhile, Boston (6-6-1) is coming off a 2-0 Seattle win on Sunday.
Ahead of the pivotal divisional game, here is what the Maple Leafs lineup is expected to look like.
Maple Leafs predicted lines
Forwards
- Matthew Knies - Auston Matthews - Mitch Marner
- Max Pacioretty - John Tavares - William Nylander
- Bobby McMann - Max Domi - Nick Robertson
- Steven Lorentz - David Kampf - Ryan Reaves
As of Tuesday, Toronto has been mixing the lines, so either Reaves or Pontus Holmberg will likely be a scratch. If it is Reaves, Holmberg will just slide into his spot on the fourth line.
The Maple Leafs' offense finally scored a power-play goal on Sunday, which has been an issue for Toronto this season.
"Yeah, it was a great passing play by Mitch (Marner) and [Matthews] to get me that,” Nylander said, via NHL.com. “It was good. I thought our power play was clicking there, so I felt good."
Defenseman
- Morgan Reilly - Oliver Ekman-Larsson
- Jake McCabe - Chris Tanev
- Simon Benoit - Conor Timmins
Toronto's blue line has been set, especially after Timothy Liljgeren was traded to the San Jose Sharks.
Goalies
- Anthony Stolarz
- Joseph Woll
Stolarz should start for the second straight game, given that it's a divisional game against Boston. Woll has struggled this season since returning from injury.
“Outstanding. He's been great all year. Tonight was no different. You could argue that he kept us in it for periods of time,” Defenseman Morgan Rielly said about Stolarz following Sunday's result. “A couple outstanding saves. So you want to win those ones for your goalie. Obviously that's not the case tonight, but I thought he was great,” Rielly added.
Auston Matthews also had some positive words for Anthony Stolarz, regarding his form and how it impacts the team morale.
“Yeah, I mean, he's been solid for us all year. So, I mean, he's got the confidence,” Matthews said about Stolarz. “We've got the confidence in him that we want to make it as easy as possible for him. But when he's got to step up and make a save, he's been doing that for us all year. So it's been great to see. He's been playing great hockey for us,” he added.
Maple Leafs vs Bruins preview
Toronto has yet to find consistency this season, as the offense, surprisingly, was the issue at the beginning of the year.
Jeremy Swayman, who has been playing well lately, should get the start for Boston. He should be able to have success against this struggling Maple Leafs offense.
Boston can get an early lead and hang on for another low-scoring game here.
Prediction: Bruins 3, Toronto 2.
