Milan Lucic reflects on how he contemplated retirement

Milan Lucic has revealed that he thought about retiring before the Boston Bruins showed interest in bringing him back.

Lucic was with the Bruins from 2007 until 2015 and was a member of the 2011 Stanley Cup-winning team. After the 2015 season, Lucic was traded to the Los Angeles Kings before signing a seven-year deal with the Edmonton Oilers.

After spending three years with the Oilers and four with the Calgary Flames, Lucic was a free agent this summer. Given that he's 35, many wondered what the future would be for Lucic, who ended up signing a one-year deal with the Bruins.

However, before Lucic signed a one-year deal to return to Boston, he went to play for Team Canada at the World Championship, which reportedly gave him the confidence to stick in the NHL.

“It was just having fun again,” Lucic said to The Athletic. “When you go to tournaments like that, it’s lighter. The mood is a lot looser. Even though there is pressure to win, especially when you’re Team Canada.
"But it was just having fun and getting to experience that with the boys was a lot of fun. Then adding the families into that as well and having them to celebrate the championship with was a lot of fun.”

Along with playing for Team Canada helped Milan Lucic not retire, so too, did the offer to play for the Boston Bruins.

According to Lucic, since leaving Boston, he says that he felt lost and would get frustrated on the ice. So, when the offer came for him to play in Boston again, he jumped at the chance.

“My mindset became so polluted,” Lucic said. “I was always frustrated. I was always angry. I would be angry at the weather. I’d be angry if somebody cut me off.
"I’d be angry at little things. As much as we want to talk about it being in Edmonton, it was also me being frustrated and angry at myself. I was always in a hole that I felt I’d never get out of. Also at a lot of times, I felt like I was alone.”

Milan Lucic has been dealing with a minor injury

Milan Lucic has been dealing with an injury after he blocked a shot by Derek Forbort. He missed the Bruins game on Sunday due to the same and is listed as day-to-day.

This season, Milan Lucic has skated in four games and recorded two assists. He also has recorded just two penalty minutes, but the-fan favorite has been a big help in Boston, starting the season undefeated.
