The New York Rangers have announced their preseason schedule for the 2024-25 season. It will start on September 22 and conclude on October 4. The Rangers will face off against their Metropolitan Division rivals. Their opponents include the New Jersey Devils, Boston Bruins, and New York Islanders.

The Rangers will play three home games at Madison Square Garden and three away games at their opponents' venues. This preseason will provide the first look at Sheldon Keefe as the new head coach of the Devils and replacing interim head coach Travis Green.

New York Rangers's Barclay Goodrow claimed off waivers by the Sharks
Barclay Goodrow was waived by the New York Rangers before the NHL draft 2024. He was eventually picked up by the San Jose Sharks on June 20, thus wiping off his $3.6 million salary from the Rangers books. This exchange, which was done by Rangers GM Chris Drury, frees up more space on the cap for New York to approximately $12.8 million and helps their offseason preparations.
Goodrow, 31, is coming back to San Jose, where he started his career and it will benefit the rebuilding team. Although a source says that he had problems with the Rangers in regards to his waiver, the Sharks were on the list of the 15 teams he did not want to be traded to.
Nevertheless, the Rangers are the team that benefits the most by trading away his contract, which the team deemed too pricey for a bottom-six forward, whose production was a mere four goals in 80 games in the 2024 season.
