The Seattle Kraken are reportedly on the verge of securing a significant contract extension with defenseman Adam Larsson.
According to hockey insider Frank Seravalli, he tweeted:
"Sources say #SeaKraken and defenseman Adam Larsson are closing in on a 4-year contract extension. Still some work to do, but sounds like it will end up somewhere between $5 to 6 million AAV. Could be finalized as soon as tomorrow."
Currently in the last year of a four year deal worth $16 million, Larsson signed with the Seattle Kraken in 2021. He was selected as the fourth overall pick by the New Jersey Devils in 2011.
He spent his first five NHL seasons with the Devils before being traded to the Edmonton Oilers for Taylor Hall. Larsson played five seasons in Edmonton before joining Seattle.
In his NHL career, Larsson has appeared in 848 games and tallied 213 points (45 goals, 168 assists).
Fans react to Seattle Kraken and Adam Larsson nearing extension deal
News that the Seattle Kraken and defenseman Adam Larsson are nearing a contract extension has sparked reaction from fans online.
One fan expressed concern over the rumored $4 million AAV extension, tweeted:
"Holy overpay."
Another questioned the above fan's comment:
"How? He’s gonna be a steady defense first top 4 dman for the duration of the contract. Sure he’ll slow down in the last year or 2 but look at ekholm, they’re similar players but obvs ek has more upside & offense to his game. Thats what you pay for top 4 D especially right handed"
Here are some more fan reactions:
"Certainly benefits them to do so. Not only for contract concerns but Michkov is here on “compassionate grounds.” Best not to set a double standard as perceived by Russian hockey. Lose the battle. Win the war." one fan wrote on X.
"Damn, I'd have liked to have him back here... not that he can't still be traded here, but much less likely." another fan wrote.
"What a steal for a guy that was traded 1 for 1 for a Hart trophy winner" a user commented.
"Good for Adam. Massive overpay though" another user wrote.
While details are still being finalized, this move signals the Seattle Kraken's intention to lock up key players
