The Vancouver Canucks are looking to move past the tumultuous 2024-25 season.
Just about everything went wrong for a team that was one win away from knocking off the Edmonton Oilers in Round 2 the year prior.
With the clock ticking on Quinn Hughes, whose contract expires at the end of the 2026-27 campaign, management needs to make moves to improve the roster around their superstar.
Canucks insiders Thomas Drance and Harman Dayal wrote an article for The Athletic and provided three top-six forwards for Vancouver to target in a trade this offseason. Jason Robertson, Marco Rossi, and Trevor Zegras were the names mentioned, and according to Drance and Dayal, all three are rumored to be available. Here was what they had to say in the article.
"There are credible rumblings surrounding Dallas Stars winger Jason Robertson, a 25-year-old who has eclipsed 35 goals in three of the past four seasons. Center Marco Rossi (23 years old, 60-point season) could shake loose as a result of his playoff usage and a looming contract standoff with the Minnesota Wild. It’s been apparent for a while that flashy Anaheim Ducks forward Trevor Zegras could be available, and he’s entering the final season of his second contract—a three-year bridge deal," Drance and Dayal wrote.
The Canucks have $12 million in cap space and a solid amount of draft capital to work with this summer should they look to acquire a player of that caliber.
Canucks captain Quinn Hughes finished third in the Norris Trophy voting
Despite how difficult of a season it was for the Vancouver Canucks, their captain displayed his brilliance every night.
Quinn Hughes battled through injuries and still managed to rack up 76 points (16 goals, 60 assists) in just 68 games. He earned a third-place finish in the Norris Trophy voting for his performance.
Canucks reporter Noah Strang shared the voting results on X.
"Quinn Hughes came third in Norris Trophy voting," Strang wrote.
It's fair to say that if Hughes were to have been healthy all year, he could have given Cale Makar a run for his money for the trophy. The 25-year-old was seeking to win the award for the second consecutive year after his tremendous 2023-24 season.
More importantly, Hughes will hope to see his front office make the right moves this summer in order for Vancouver to make a return to the postseason in 2025-26.
