Over the years in the NHL, the Alex Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby rivalry has seen all sorts of drama. From dramatic playoff series, to fights on and off the ice, tensions have certainly been hot over the years between Sid the Kid and the Great 8. Despite the rivalry, the two aging stars came together at NHL All-Star Skills to make a memory for fans of all ages.

In the third round of the NHL Breakaway Challenge, where NHL players are rewarded for their comedy and creativity in scoring a goal on a breakaway, Crosby and Ovechkin teamed up for something a little different and far more adorable.

The two players met at center ice where they chatted with PK Subban. Crosby made a comment about how one person was missing, then out skated the four-year-old son of Ovechkin, Sergei. Sergei skated in and fired the puck five holes past Hall of Fame Panthers and Canucks legend Roberto Luongo. The judges in attendance gave the three stars a perfect score, gaining four 10s and a score of 40.

NHL Fans from across the league react to the kid who stole the show, Sergei Ovechkin

Some fans even commented on what it would be like seeing this clip again in 25-30 years when Sergei Ovechkin may be building an NHL career of his own.

As adorable as the event was, some fans had an even better idea, having young Sergei line up in the patented “Ovechkin Office”. The Ovechkin office was coined due to Ovechkin’s habit of lining up in the left hand faceoff circle and blasting slapshots past a slow netminder on power plays throughout his storied career.

Finally, even Pittsburgh Penguins fans were taken aback by the cuteness of Ovi Jr. Even though Sidney Crosby didn’t participate as much as Alex or Sergei Ovechkin, Pens fans will be quick to remind viewers who got Sergei’s assist.

The cuteness of Sergei Ovechkin was even too much to topple local favorites and brothers Brady and Matthew Tkachuk who were unable to steal the hometown show, only getting a score of 33 in the final round.

Even though Alex Ovechkin will be sharing the Breakaway Challenge title with Crosby and most notably, his son Sergei, the win marks history for the Great 8. Ovechkin leads any player in skills competition history with four wins and wins in three separate decades. No other player has ever won more than one.
