NHL twitter reacts as fight breaks out during Edmonton Oilers' embarrassing 6-2 loss to the Montreal Canadiens

The Edmonton Oilers suffered a crushing 6-2 defeat against the Montreal Canadiens in an early Sunday game at Bell Centre, Montreal. The Oilers were coming off a win against the Ottawa Senators and were looking to capitalize on their recent form against the Canadiens, who were bottom of the table in the Atlantic Division. However, the "Habs" stunned the Edmonton Oilers and recorded their 22nd win of the season.

Alex Belzile scored his first NHL goal 8:14 into the first period. The puck deflected off the defender and fell to Belzile, who wrist-shot it into the top right corner, leaving no chance for goalie Stuart Skinner.

Jordan Harris extended the lead for the "Habs" in the second period when he scored from a very sharp angle from the right side of the goal, making it 2-0 for the Canadiens.

Josh Anderson added to the Oilers' woes when he shot the puck into the back of the net from an Evgenii Dadonov attempt. The puck rebounded and fell right to him, making it his 15th goal of the season.

Things got heated between the teams midway into the second period when players from both teams were booked for cross-checking and roughing. It eventually led to a tussle between Vincent Desharnais and Arber Xhekaj.

12 minutes into the second period, Leon Draisaitl scored a goal for the Edmonton Oilers when he hit an uncontested shot into the net during the Oilers' power play. It was Draisaitl's 30th goal of the season.

The Edmonton Oilers looked set to make a comeback when Evander Kane scored with five minutes left in the second period. He zipped a wrist shot past an unsuspecting Jake Allen.

Rafael Harvey-Pinard scored late in the second period during a power play for Montreal and made it 4-2. It was his sixth goal in nine games. He tipped in a Mike Matheson pass from the mid-line.

Jordan Harris scored his second goal of the game three minutes into the third period with an assist from Joel Armia, making the score 5-2.

Christian Dvorak made it 6-2 for the "Habs" when snapped a uncontested shot into the net for his eighth goal of the season and 200th career points.
