Celebrini, 18, had 63 points (25 goals, 38 assists) in 70 games for the San Jose Sharks. Despite the low Calder Trophy voting total, he is still seen as a key piece for the team’s future.

In May, Celebrini also gained experience at the 2025 IIHF World Championship. He played for Team Canada alongside stars like Sidney Crosby and Nathan MacKinnon. In his statement from May, Celebrini said that learning from Crosby and MacKinnon helped him grow.

"Just being around those kinds of players and people every day, you can't do anything but learn from them and get better," Celebrini said, via NHL.com. "I mean, it's cool building that relationship with them."
"They're players that I looked up to when I was younger and guys that I watched and try to learn from on the TV, but now getting to know them and play with them, it's cool."

The Sharks finished last in the NHL with 52 points. They averaged the fewest goals per game (2.54) and allowed the most (3.78). The Sharks will pick No. 2 in the 2025 Draft, and they have missed the playoffs for six straight years.

Lane Hutson wins Calder Trophy after strong rookie season

Lane Hutson won the Calder Trophy after a great rookie season with the Montreal Canadiens. He is the first Canadiens player to win the award since Ken Dryden in 1972. Hutson is also the second defenseman in team history to win it, after Jacques Laperriere in 1964.

Lane Hutson finished his rookie season with 66 points, the highest among all NHL rookies. He also reached 60 assists, which matched the all-time record for rookie defensemen in the league.

On TSN’s Overdrive, Hutson said playing in Montreal feels special. He felt the energy and support from fans even before the season began.

“Yeah, I mean, it was honestly surreal. The season hadn't even started at that time. And you feel it. You feel the excitement. You feel the energy of people wanting us to do so well and wanting to win a lot," Hutson said. “So it's just an amazing scenario for anyone who gets to play for Montreal, and I couldn't be more fortunate that I get to do it for the Canadiens."

Many past Canadiens rookies who won the Calder Trophy went on to win Stanley Cups. Hutson’s success puts him among these names.
