Connor McDavid is the world's best player, and it's not even close.
Opponents know they won't be able to stop him, so all they hope to somewhat contain him. But even that has been a struggle for teams throughout this postseason, and it hasn't gone any better for the Florida Panthers.
McDavid has already racked up five points (five assists) in the first two games of the Stanley Cup Finals and does not look to be slowing down. His ridiculous skill set was on full display in Game 2, particularly on a first-period power play, where he dangled Aleksander Barkov and Aaron Ekblad before setting up a Leon Draisaitl one-timer goal.
It was a spectacular play, but one that fans have become so accustomed to seeing from McDavid. Ekblad was the victim of a nasty toe drag to cap it all off, put on a poster by who he calls 'McJesus.'
Luke Fox of Sportsnet shared what the Panthers defenseman had to say when asked about the play on Sunday on X.
"He’s got multiple options, so that’s the biggest challenge, right?" Ekblad said. "You’re trying to block a shot, you’re trying to block a low pass, a backdoor pass, and a walk-on-water toe drag. So, yeah, McJesus."
McDavid is now up to 31 points (six goals, 25 assists) in just 18 games in these playoffs.
Connor McDavid is convincing many that he's the greatest hockey player of all time
While he's yet to win the Stanley Cup, another deep run full of brilliance has the hockey world in awe of Connor McDavid.
Many analysts and fans are beginning to reach the point of believing that he's the greatest hockey player ever to play the game. Host of "Kyper & Bourne" on Sportsnet, Sam McKee, is one of those people. Here was what he had to share on X on Friday:
"Connor McDavid is absolutely the greatest player in the history of hockey."
The more you watch Connor McDavid, the harder it is to disagree with these takes; however, he must first capture the ultimate prize before we truly dive into these discussions.
McDavid and the Oilers are in Florida, preparing for Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Finals that will go down on Monday against the Panthers. The puck drops at 8 p.m. EST at Amerant Bank Arena.
