The Pittsburgh Penguins (3-6-1) are at home to face the Minnesota Wild (5-1-2) on Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET.
Pittsburgh is coming off a 4-3 loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday, while the Wild were defeated by the Philadelphia Flyers 7-5 on Sunday. Ahead of the game, here is what the Penguins lineup is projected to look like.
Predicted Penguins lineup
Forwards
- Drew O'Connor - Sidney Crosby - Rickard Rakell
- Anthony Beauviller - Evgeni Malkin - Bryan Rust
- Michael Bunting - Lars Eller - Valtteri Puustinen
- Kevin Hayes - Noel Acciari - Jeese Puljujarvi
The Penguins' offense has struggled this season, despite having Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin on their roster.
“We've only played 10 games so far, but the next 10’s going to come fast, and same thing after that,” Alex Nedeljkovic said on Sunday, via NHL.com. “So, we've got to find a way to nip it in the bud right now and regroup and look for a good, strong effort at home on Tuesday.”
Pittsburgh is averaging three goals per game.
Defenseman
- Marcus Pettersson - Kris Letang
- Matt Grzelcyk - Erik Karlsson
- Ryan Graves - Jack St. Ivey
The Penguins' blue line has been an issue as Letang and Karlsson are off to slow starts.
Goalies
- Joel Blomqvist
- Alex Nedeljkovic
The Penguins' goaltending has also struggled as Tristan Jarry was sent down to the AHL to try and get his game back. However, in his first AHL start, Jarry got the win.
“I think any time you can win a game, it helps your confidence,” Jarry said, via NHL.com. “So being able to win that first one, I think really helps, and hopefully that’ll transition and I’ll be able to continue throughout the week...
“Just making the best of it, coming down here, playing some games, and just getting better. I think that's the key, and that's the mindset. Just having that mindset to grow every day and to become a better person, better goalie – I think that's the goal with this.”
Penguins vs Wild: Preview
Despite being the home team, Pittsburgh is a +100 underdog while Minnesota is a -120 favorite.
The Wild have been solid to start the season and they should be able to get a big win on the road. The Penguins will struggle to score, while its goaltending and defense are still an issue.
Prediction: Wild 5, Penguins 3.
