Spencer Carbery has won the 2024-25 Jack Adams Award. It is given to the coach who helped his team succeed the most, as voted by the NHL Broadcasters’ Association.
Carbery led the Washington Capitals this season, and received 464 points in the final vote. Winnipeg Jets coach Scott Arniel finished second with 249 points, while Martin St. Louis of the Montreal Canadiens was third with 66 points.
NHL insider Chris Johnston shared the voting results on X on Saturday.
In 2020-21, Carbery was named AHL Coach of the Year with the Hershey Bears. He also won ECHL Coach of the Year in 2013-14 with the South Carolina Stingrays. He is the first coach to win top coaching awards in the NHL, AHL and ECHL.
After the announcement, many NHL fans shared their reactions on X.
"Funny seeing DeBoer there,” one fan tweeted.
“They picked Carbery over Craig Berube for the Jack Adams? That’s a joke,” a fan wrote.
"Now release the Calder winner. This is the only one that matters" another fan said.
Here more fan reactions.
"I understand Carbery winning; I even understand Arniel being second. But there is no way on God’s green earth that Coop should’ve fallen that low. He is 3rd or 4th in my opinion. Disgraceful!" a fan said.
"Not enough love for Huska. Flames projected to he a bottom team this season. Finished tied for a wildcard spit against the coach who came 4th," one fan commented.
"Can’t really argue with the winner or the other guys at the top here. But some of the other coaches getting votes or coaches that didn’t get votes is pretty laughable," a fan wrote.
Spencer Carbery received a surprise upon winning the Jack Adams Award
Spencer Carbery won the 2025 Jack Adams Award and was surprised by his family and the Capitals during a TV interview. He thought he was there for a normal segment, but his wife (Casey), kids (Hudson and Vivian) and parents (Bryan and Kate) showed up with the trophy. NHL insider Frank Seravalli shared the video on X.
“Beautiful moment for Spencer Carbery as he’s surprised by his family and #allcaps with the 2025 Jack Adams Award as coach of the year. All of those stops along the way, leading you to right where you’re supposed to be," Seravalli tweeted on Saturday.
Carbery said he didn’t expect the award and thanked his players and staff.
"I had no idea,” Carbery said, via NHL.com. "How did everyone travel here? All corners of the continent. I'll never forget that."
Carbery led the Capitals to a 51-22-9 record and helped them reach the playoffs for the first time since 2018. The team improved in almost every area, including scoring, defense and special teams.
