According to head coach Rick Tocchet, the Vancouver Canucks are getting Brock Boeser back for Tuesday's matchup with the Boston Bruins. The star missed the last seven games with a concussion.
Iain MacIntyre reported that Boeser will be in the lineup and Max Sasson will be the odd man out. He said it was a tough choice and noted that Sasson doesn't deserve to be replaced but asked his player to stay ready.
If necessary, Sasson could play tomorrow against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Tonight, though, the Canucks will get some much-needed reinforcements in the form of Boeser, who scored 40 goals last year but has been injured for part of this season.
Brock Boeser opens up on concussion
During a game against the Los Angeles Kings on Nov. 7, Brock Boeser was involved in a collision with Tanner Jeannot. The incident resulted in a concussion for Boeser, a three-game suspension and a major penalty for Jeannot.
On Monday, he said that he ran into Jeanot after the game in a hallway:
“He apologized," Boeser said (via Sportsnet). "It's hard to say if that makes it better. You appreciate it when someone apologizes. Some guys might not apologize because they think they're not in the wrong. But, obviously, he apologized, so he probably felt (the hit) wasn't good. So, yeah, you appreciate that.”
Boeser said his first week off was "pretty tough" and that he tried and struggled to bike a few times. He said his head began to hurt and he got nauseous, so he decided to rest instead.
He continued:
"I kept getting treatment on my neck and all that stuff. When I came back and did the steps (the NHL’s concussion protocol), I started feeling better the second time around."
Boeser said it "sucks" to be sidelined and deal with constant head pain but acknowledged the importance of patience during recovery from a serious injury. Now fully recovered, he is set to return to action tonight.
