Sheldon Keefe weighs in on Toronto Maple Leafs entering playoffs on four-game losing streak

Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe isn't too concerned that his team is entering the Stanley Cup playoffs on a four-game losing streak.

The Maple Leafs concluded their regular season against the Tampa Bay Lightning on road. Toronto struggled from the get-go, as the Bolts cruised to a 6-4 win over the Maple Leafs.

However, Keefe says he didn't care much about the game and admitted he was scouting the Boston Bruins in between periods.

“I couldn’t even tell you the score of any of those games, including tonight," Keefe said.

Although Keefe isn't concerned, Maple Leafs fans are hopeful the team looks much better come Saturday night when they open the playoffs against the Boston Bruins on the road.

Maple Leafs turn focus to Bruins

The Toronto Maple Leafs will open the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs on Saturday night.

Toronto struggled against the Bruins this season, losing all four meetings between the two teams, but that helps motivate the Maple Leafs.

"Obviously, it will be a real challenge, but it will be real special being Original Six, and it has a real history to it," Leafs captain John Tavares said after the matchup was locked in on Tuesday, via TSN. "Great opportunity for us. It’s a test and we have to be prepared."

Toronto is currently a +105 underdog in the series against the Bruins.

Auston Matthews falls short of 70 goals

Auston Matthews was held goalless in the final two games of the season to end his year at 69 goals, one away from 70 goals.

Matthews admits scoring 70 goals was something he was after, as he wanted to set the record.

"I wanted it, for sure. But, you know, it just wasn't meant to be," Matthews said, via Sportsnet.
"When you turn the page, the most important thing is the team and the team's success and making sure that I'm pulling my weight and doing what I can as a leader on this team and individually to help the team win — especially as we go into the post-season. So, that's where my focus is. And I think that's kind of where my mindset has been at all year."

Although Matthews didn't get 70 goals, his focus now turns to the Boston Bruins and the Stanley Cup playoffs.
