Florida Panthers goaltender Sergei Bobrosvky was one of the key players in his team’s 2024 Stanley Cup campaign. His exceptional performances came clutch throughout their postseason run.
A three-time All-Star and a two-time Vezina Trophy awardee, Bobrovsky has already stacked an impressive resume. Recently, the official X handle of the NHL posted a query asking fans if the Panthers goalie is already a lock for the Hockey Hall of Fame.
“Sergei Bobrovsky has just added #StanleyCup champion onto an already impressive resume. Will he one day be in the @HockeyHallFame? 🤔”, NHL wrote on X.
Fans were quick to react to the tweet in the comment section of the post. Some fans felt that Bobrovsky would need to add a few more accolades to his repertoire to earn a place in the Hall of Fame.
Following are some fan reactions from X/Twitter:
“Still has work to do.”
“It’s the HOCKEY hall of fame, not the NHL hall of fame. His entire body of work will be judged. Many a player were passed because they didn’t have a full resume of work,” wrote one user.
“Good chance but I kinda feel like the hall has a disproportionally high number of goalies (anyone have the actual numbers?) so I’m hesitant to give my full endorsement at this point,” quipped another fan.
Meanwhile, other users insisted that the goaltender had achieved more than enough to make a case for the honor. They believed that winning the Stanley Cup and two Vezina trophies sealed the deal for Bobrovsky.
“First ballot.”
“Yeah he’ll be up there for sure, a Stanley and a couple Vezinas is hard to beat,” commented one fan.
“He was before the Stanley Cup in my mind but that solidifies him at least a first ballot now. Crazy thing he’s only 14 years in and still playing at an elite level. Could easily see him making it to 20 years if injuries don’t affect him,” wrote another fan.
Sergei Bobrovsky has been the ‘best player’ for the Florida Panthers in the postseason
Bobrovsky came up big in the Florida Panthers' Stanley Cup win against the Edmonton Oilers. In Game 7, he saved 23 of 24 shots, including six of seven high-danger ones. Throughout the postseason, he had a 2.32 goals against average and a .906 save percentage. In fact, he held opponents to two goals or fewer in 16 of 24 games, with two shutouts.
“He’s been our best player all year long, all playoffs long,” his teammate Sam Bennett had said. “When we needed him the most, he stood on his head. It’s just incredible.” [H/T Yahoo Sports]
The Panthers goalie had been equally impressive, if not more in the regular season. His excellent stats during their regular season campaign, including a 36-17-4 record, a .915 save percentage, a 2.37 goals against average, and six shutouts, proved decisive in making their way to the playoffs. So far, Sergei Bobrovsky has played 700 regular-season games, won 396, and has 44 shutouts.
