Ervil Di Giusto and his daughter have an unusual tradition for the Toronto Maple Leafs' home games. They attend every Leafs home game and wear the opposing team’s jersey. Di Giusto, who grew up a Montreal Canadiens fan, says he enjoys watching hockey but can't bring himself to support the Leafs. So, he decided to attend the games wearing the jersey of the visiting team.
Di Giusto’s daughter often joins him, dressed in a matching jersey. For them, it’s a fun tradition and a way to bond. However, many Leafs fans find it irritating. A fan on X, @LeafErikzen, posted a photo of Di Giusto in a Detroit Red Wings jersey and wrote:
"Petition to have these losers banned from every Leafs game from now until eternity."
Reactions online were quick, with some fans saying the duo’s behavior is “annoying.”
"This is such loser behavior. I can’t even fathom making your whole identity being hated by everyone around you. And for nothing too. They have nothing invested in any other team," one fan said.
"Haha I mean, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my times trolling sens fans in Ottawa. It’s part of the fun," another fan said.
"These are not hockey fans, just stone-cold haters who want every hot tub cold," a fan said.
"Why? Cause they pay to come to the game, and cheer against the Leafs? At least they are having fun and engaged in the game. This is kinda loser behavior NGL," one fan said.
Di Giusto says he isn’t trying to be a Maple Leafs “hater”. He says they would even be happy if the Leafs won the Stanley Cup.
Here are some more reactions from NHL fans:
"Haba fabs who hate the Leafs love it," a fan said.
"The worst part is they constantly show these 2 morons on TV, they deserve 0 publicity," another fan said.
"It’s actually impressive how much they pay to sit in those seats and pay to buy other teams jerseys," one fan said.
