The Calgary Flames were a mediocre team last season, winning 38 games, losing 39, and scoring a total of 81 points. It left them on the outside looking in at the playoffs, and they've been active this offseason to try and improve their team. The new lineup is projected to have a few notable players in it.
The Flames now have Martin Pospisil, Nazem Kadri and Andrei Kuzmenko on the front line at forward. Jake Bean and Rasmus Andersson highlight the defense in front of goalkeeper Dustin Wolf. Fans were split on what to make of the new-look Flames roster.
"When your highest paid player is on the third line, that’s not good. Blown away at what a different player Huby is in Calgary than he was in Florida," one said.
"You had to know when you tweeted this the comments aren’t going to be kind," another joked.
Not everyone thinks the Flames will be bad this year, though. Some fans believe this is a roster that could surprise everyone.
"Barely missing the playoffs and getting the 15th pick," another said.
"I’m good with this lineup … can cause some damage," one added.
"I'm really excited to see what this team can do! They've got some great pieces in place, and I think they're going to make some big strides. The addition of that new defenseman is a huge boost," a fan said.
Time will tell which sect of NHL fans are right about the Flames in 2024.
NHL insider claims people want a complete Flames rebuild
The Calgary Flames are in an interesting spot. They're not bad enough to really get an impact player at the top of the NHL Draft, but they're also far from good enough to contend even for a playoff spot. That leaves them with a difficult choice.
NHL insider David Pagnotta said, via NHL Trade Rumors:
"There are some people in the Flames organization that just want to tear it down and do a proper rebuild, and there are others that understand that's probably the right way to go."
However, Pagnotta did not say that it was going to happen. If they're to make moves, the Flames reportedly want young NHL players or those ready to make the jump to the NHL. He said they'd do an "escalated" rebuild instead of tearing it down.

He did also note that they are willing to listen on Nazem Kadri, MacKenzie Weegar, Jonathan Huberdeau or Mikael Backlund if teams are interested.
