After the 2024 Stanley Cup Final saw the Florida Panthers secure their first Stanley Cup win in franchise history, NHL fans are already debating who will win next year's finals. This past season, several teams impressed throughout the postseason, with the Edmonton Oilers coming within arms reach of overturning a 3-0 series deficit in the Stanley Cup Final.

Given that, many believe Edmonton will be back in contention next season, while others teams such as the New York Rangers and Dallas Stars who made it to the Conference Finals are believed to be contenders. At the same time, we have also seen teams who sat on the fringes of Cup contention bolster their rosters for the season ahead.

For example, the Detroit Red Wings, who missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs this past season, have made some offseason moves to improve their roster heading into next season. At the same time, other teams such as the Chicago Blackhawks, who weren't viewed as postseason contenders, are eager to make waves.

On Saturday, TSN's BarDown posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, asking fans for their Stanley Cup predictions next season. Unsurprisingly, the NHL community was quick to begin debating which teams had the best chance at making a run at the Cup.

"Unfortunately canes vs canucks and canes win it. its always the worst fanbases that get to the cup," one fan wrote.

"Leafs and Oilers would be my Stanley Cup Finals matchup for 2025. I'm sick n tired of having the same All-American cup Finals every year. It's time for an All-Canadian Stanley Cup Finals," another added.

Others suggested that the Oilers would return to the finals:

"Edmonton versus New York Rangers," one fan wrote.

"Red Wings Oilers," another added.

"I think Edmonton and Florida repeat," one fan predicted.

Others predicted different matchups:

"Canes vs Avalanche," a fan wrote.

"Sharks vs Blue Jackets," another predicted.

Looking at the odds for 2025 Stanley Cup winners

While it's only July, and there is still plenty of time for teams to make big moves that shake up the landscape of the league, fans can bet on which team will win the 2024-25 Stanley Cup.

On FanDuel, it's the Edmonton Oilers who sit as slight betting favorites with +850 odds to win it all. Following their Game 7 loss to the Florida Panthers this past season, the Oilers seem to be sitting in a good spot given that they retained much of their core roster.

Specifically, of course, the team will have Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid both still under contract next season, whereas the Florida Panthers, who sit in second place with +950 odds on FanDuel to win next year's Cup, lost several key players.

Brandon Montour signed a seven-year deal with the Seattle Kraken, while Oliver Ekman-Larsson signed a four-year deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs. In addition, both Kevin Stenlund and Ryan Lomberg signed two-year deals that sent Stenlund to Utah and Lomberg to Calgary.

Sitting in third place we have the Dallas Stars with +1000 odds after the team fell to the Oilers in a six-game Western Conference Final series. In fourth and fifth place, we have a tie between the New Jersey Devils, who missed the postseason last year, and the Colorado Avalanche, who lost in the second round last season.

With plenty more time for teams to make big moves before the start of the 2024-25 season, only time will tell how things change between now and then.
