On Friday, B/R Open Ice shared information about an important change in KHL’s overtime rules on X (formerly Twitter). This season, players in the KHL will face restrictions on their movements during overtime.
Specifically, they will not be permitted to skate the puck back into their defensive zone. A second violation of this rule will lead to a minor penalty.
Following the announcement, NHL fans have been reacting to the post on X.
"too many ways refs can get this call wrong. especially with the 2nd warning condition of a penalty being called," one fan said.
"NHL gonna steal the notes," another fan commented.
"That’s how it should be in the NHL too. Teams have absolutely ruined overtime with the possession structure now, it’s boring to watch especially when they keep leaving the blue and regrouping back in their end for a change and no possession change happens until a shot or goal," one fan posted.
Take a look at some more reactions from NHL fans on X.
"Not sure how I feel. I think this will cause more corner dump and chase because forward will be falling behind the play," one X user said.
"NHL will never because KHL does it now but it should have been like that since day 1," a fan posted.
"Kuznetsov is gonna hate this," a fan said.
Evgeny Kuznetsov returning to the KHL with SKA Saint Petersburg
Evgeny Kuznetsov's NHL journey has taken a new turn as his contract with the Carolina Hurricanes was officially terminated after clearing unconditional waivers on Thursday.
This decision follows reports that Kuznetsov, formerly with the Washington Capitals and Hurricanes, plans to return to the KHL with SKA Saint Petersburg.
The Hurricanes announced their mutual agreement to part ways on Wednesday, freeing up $13.8 million in cap space for the team. This, while Kuznetsov forfeits the remaining $6 million of his salary.
This move saves both the Hurricanes and the Capitals a combined $3.9 million in cap space, given the Capitals had agreed to retain half of Kuznetsov's $7.8 million cap hit in the trade.
Hurricanes GM Eric Tulsky thanked Kuznetsov for his contributions and wished him well.
"Ultimately both sides agreed this was the best course of action for both the player and the team,” Tulsky said (via NHL.com). “We thank Evgeny for his time with the team and wish him and his family the best."
With the Hurricanes, Kuznetsov had 13 points in 30 games.
