Nikita Kucherov's NHL career and his major achievements

Nikita Kucherov has emerged as one of the NHL's most dangerous offensive players. In 2015-16, he had his first 30-goal season and increased that to 40 goals in 2016-17. He finished third in the NHL in scoring in 2017-18 with 100 points (39 goals, 61 assists), helping the Lightning win the Atlantic Division.

But those were just warm-ups for his breakout season in 2018-19, when he led the NHL with 128 points (41 goals, 87 assists), setting a single-season record for points by a Russian-born player.

With 34 points (seven goals, 27 assists) during the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs, he led all players in scoring, assisting the Lightning to their first championship since 2004.

After missing the entire 2020–21 regular season due to hip surgery, Kucherov returned to score 32 points (eight goals, 24 assists) in 23 playoff games to help the Lightning win their second Stanley Cup in a row.

He led the playoffs in points (32) with 19 coming on the power play, becoming the sixth player in postseason history to do so without a tie and the first since Mario Lemieux (1991-92). Others include Wayne Gretzky (1987-88), Rick MacLeish (1974-75), Phil Esposito (1969-70), and Howie Morenz (1924-25).

Nikita Kucherov was drafted in the second round (58th overall) by the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2011 but has played like a first-round talent.

He won the Art Ross Trophy as the NHL's leading scorer in 2018-19, with 128 points (41 goals, 87 assists), the most by a Russian-born player in a single season, and was nominated for the Hart and Ted Lindsay trophies.

Kucherov became a 40-goal scorer in 2016–17 and was named to the NHL Second-Team All-Star team with 85 points.

In 2017-18, he was named a First-Team All-Star after becoming only the third player in Lightning history to have at least 100 points in a season (39 goals, 61 assists) and finishing third in NHL scoring.

Kucherov also had 17 points (seven goals, ten assists) in 17 playoff games as the Lightning advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals before falling to the Washington Capitals in Game 7.

In 2018-19, his strong play helped the Lightning tie the NHL single-season record of 62 wins set by the Detroit Red Wings in 1995–96. In 2019-20, Nikita Kucherov finished seventh in the NHL in scoring before helping the Lightning win the Stanley Cup for the first time since 2004.
