Back in 2015 Dion Phaneuf's wife, actress Elisha Cuthbert, and Maple Leafs player Joffrey Lupul declared that they would sue TV broadcaster TSN unless they offered an apology and compensation for using an offensive tweet on their trade deadline program.

The NHL trade deadline was covered by TSN in 2015, and the network featured a moving ticket for user-generated tweets. A false and inappropriate tweet was allowed to run despite TSN's policies to stop inappropriate and unfounded tweets from airing. This tweet contained a false claim that was not backed up by any facts. The unfortunate incident that affected Joffrey Lupul, Dion Phaneuf, and Elisha Cuthbert was apologized for by TSN.

Lupul obviously wasn't pleased and compared TSN to TMZ. It was an awkward reference because, despite being a gossip website, TMZ generally gets things correct.

In any event, TSN reportedly realized they were in hot water and hurried to Twitter to retract their statement.

The offended fan later apologized to Elisha Cuthbert for his offensive remark

Later, a hockey supporter from Toronto issued a public apology after offending Elisha Cuthbert and players Joffrey Lupul and Dion Phaneuf of the Maple Leafs with a text.

After Anthony Adragna's divisive tweet appeared on a live scroll at the bottom of the screen during TSN's NHL trade deadline program, the Maple Leafs players took offense and the trio's attorney threatened legal action. As Adragna used the hashtag #tradecentre in her message, TSN saw it.

The statement read:

"On March 2, I tweeted something offensive with the hashtag #tradecentre without considering the potential repercussions. Adragna made a statement on Friday that was shared on her Twitter account. "The tweet contained rude, uncalled for, false, and hurtful words about Dion Phaneuf, Joffrey Lupul, and Elisha Cuthbert: "Although this comment was only intended for a small group of people to see, it does not justify my decision to publish this tweet. I've come to understand that everything I publish online is visible to everyone, not just a small group of people.
"I want to express my sincere remorse to Dion, Joffrey, and Elisha. I regret to the pain and suffering this has brought other people.

Further, he added:

“I honestly hope that this apology will help make things right.”

Host James Duthie apologized live on TV before the Maple Leafs game and TSN's public relations team expressed regret for airing the tweet on Monday.
