Looking at the Edmonton Oilers struggles this season as they look to make a return to the Stanley Cup Finals
The Edmonton Oilers came close to winning the Stanley Cup before falling to the Florida Panthers in a seven-game series last season. Given that they retained most of their core roster, the team entered this season with high hopes.
However, the Oilers got off to a slow start, losing three straight to start the year. Although they did bounce back with a two-game win streak to bring their season record to 2-3-0, they split wins and losses over their next four, bringing their season record to 4-4-1.
This past week, the team again split wins and losses, going 1-1 as it lost to the Columbus Blue Jackets before bouncing back with a win over the Nashville Predators on Thursday to bring its record to 5-5-1.
With Connor McDavid sidelined Edmonton will look to stay afloat until its captain returns in the coming weeks. Following tonight's clash with the Flames, the Oilers will return home for a two-game stretch against the Devils on Monday and the Golden Knights on Wednesday.
The team will then wrap up the week with a high-stakes divisional road game against the Canucks on Saturday.
