Looking at the Florida Panthers' recent win over the Boston Bruins and their chances of going back-to-back as Stanley Cup champions
After winning their first championship in franchise history, the Florida Panthers underwent a roster overhaul this summer. Most notably, the team lost Brandon Montour, who signed a seven-year deal with the Seattle Kraken, and Oliver Ekman-Larsson, who signed a four-year deal with Toronto.
In addition, they also notably lost top-six forward Vladimir Tarasenko, who signed a two-year deal with the Detroit Red Wings. In addition, the team also lost Anthony Stolarz, Nick Cousins, Kevin Stenlund, Ryan Lomberg, Josh Mahura, Steven Lorentz and Kyle Okposo.
While they made notable acquisitions in the form of Adam Boqvist, AJ Greer and Jesper Boqvist, along with recently reassigned netminder Chris Driedger, the Panthers may be facing an uphill battle this season as they work to fill the gaps left by the departures of key contributors to last year's championship team.
The team is sitting in second place on FanDuel's championship betting odds behind the Edmonton Oilers, who were initially in second place after last season.
Despite that, the team started off their 2024-25 season on a strong note, picking up a 6-4 win over the Boston Bruins with two goals from Sam Bennett and a goal each from Sam Reinhart, Evan Rodrigues, Jonah Gadjovich and Eetu Luostarinen.
