Tonight, the New York Rangers will look to stop their freefall down the Metropolitan Division's standings while trying to snap a four-game losing streak. After starting the year as one of the best teams in the NHL, the Rangers have fallen to last place in the standings.
The team has gone 2-8-0 in its last 10 games, and 4-11-0 in its last 15, placing them against some longshot odds if they want to enter the playoffs.
After wrapping up 2024 with a 5-3 loss to the Florida Panthers on Monday, the team will look to get back in the win column tonight when they host the Boston Bruins, who is sitting third in the Atlantic Division.
Heading into tonight's game the Rangers will be without Igor Shesterkin, who was placed on IR earlier this week.

Looking at the latest update surrounding Igor Shesterkin as well as upcoming games on the Rangers schedule
New York netminder Igor Shesterkin was placed on IR due to upper-body injury following the game against the Panthers on Monday. While Shesterkin played the entirety of the game, a collision with Sam Bennett briefly left fans fearful that the netminder would be forced out of the game.
While he stayed, Shesterkin is now expected to be sidelined for the next week, putting a struggling Rangers team in a tough spot as they look to start 2025 off on the right foot.
Jonathan Quick, who has posted a 90.7% save percentage this season despite a 5-4-0 record, will be stepping in to handle starting goalie duties.
Following tonight's game against Boston, the team will head to Washington for a showdown with the Capitals before then playing the Blackhawks the following night in Chicago.
