The Philadelphia Flyers have a few young players to build around, notably Matvei Michkov. The Flyers are young and have a 9-10-3 record this season, so 2024 may not be the year to contend. This makes it an excellent year to move assets and recuperate draft picks or younger, cheaper players. One NHL analyst has a couple of players to keep an eye on this year.
Rasmus Ristolainen who is on a five-year, $25.5 million deal is a prime trade candidate for the Flyers, according to TSN analyst Darren Dreger.
"They know what they are and they know what they're doing," Dreger said via TSN. "The Philadelphia Flyers are still in the building process, of building a long term foundation. Daniel Briere is one of the more active GMs, and he's taken a lot of calls. There's a ton of interest, as we know, in veteran defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen."
Dreger went on to name Scott Laughton as another interesting name.
"Here's another interesting name," the insider added. "It's been out there on and off over the last couple of years, but back on him. Not that Philadelphia wants to get rid of him, but Scott Laughton is a center man that is drawing a crowd, lots of interest in him, but again, not eager to move him."
Dreger did say it would require a substantial return for the Flyers to move on from Laughton, but it's possible.
Philadelphia Flyers star linked to three teams in potential trade
Aside from the two players above, the Philadelphia Flyers also have another intriguing name in trade talks: Morgan Frost. According to the Hockey News, the Anaheim Ducks, Chicago Blackhawks, and Toronto Maple Leafs are looking into the player. Of the three, only the Maple Leafs are currently contenders.
Frost is off to a slow start in 2024 and has been on the trade rumor mill for a long time. His play has done nothing to take him off and warrant the Flyers keeping him around for the future, so there could be a trade to one of the three teams or someone else in order.
