The Calgary Flames are the subject of trade rumors this season. Reports suggest the team's general manager, Craig Conroy, is open to trading some key players. One player in focus is defenseman Rasmus Andersson.
Andersson, 27, has a six-year, $27.3 million contract with the Flames, earning $4.55 million a year. His contract ends after the 2025-26 season. At that time, Andersson will be 29.
David Pagnotta of NHL Network discussed Andersson's future:
“Rasmus Andersson, they are willing to take calls. Still, on Anderson, he has another year left on his contract, has some no trade protection. But there's some belief in Flames and in National Hockey League that this might be his last season as a Calgary Flame. The Flames would be seriously looking at moving him this season if something isn't done over the course of the summer.”
The Flames have not said they are rebuilding the team. However, being open to trading players like Andersson shows they might make big changes. Trading him could help them build for the future.
Calgary Flames eye trade for Nazem Kadri amid rebuild plans
The Calgary Flames are focusing on future development and considering more changes. After trading Jacob Markstrom to the New Jersey Devils, they might move Nazem Kadri next.
David Pagnotta reported that Kadri, with a full no-movement clause, is open to a trade east. Kadri led the Flames last season with 29 goals and 75 points. He joined Calgary in 2022 after winning the Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche.
Despite his solid performance, Kadri’s age (34) and contract (five years left) might make a trade challenging. However, a strong start to the 2024-25 season could increase his trade value. The Flames’ rebuild means Kadri could be a key asset in upcoming trades.
